Asheville Creative Arts Preschool strives to provide a balance of teacher-guided structure and child-directed free-play. This includes mixing already developed curriculum with creative projects of our own. Our artists often lead the way in deciding what material is covered throughout the year. When a student asks about the stars, we pull out the almanac and start making chalk drawings of constellations. When our students are having a ball during a scarf-dancing activity, we extend the activity. We understand that our students have varying strengths and talents. One student might learn multiplication as another learns how to count. We encourage all of our students to realize their potential by incorporating research-driven curriculum into our program that can be easily customized to meet the individual needs of each of our young artists. Our primary resource is the Get Set for School® Curriculum by Handwriting Without Tears. We supplement with materials from Kindermusik® Preschool-Level Curriculum, Music Together®, MTI’s Broadway Junior Collection®, and original lesson plans.
by Handwriting Without Tears
Get Set for School® helps young learners gain the skills and experiences they need for lifelong learning success. This hands-on, award-winning curriculum gets preschoolers singing, dancing, coloring, building, and exploring. Get Set for School® focuses on the three core learning areas—readiness & writing, language & literacy, and numbers & math. The Handwriting Without Tears system is trusted not only by our Asheville Creative Arts Preschool, but also by local school systems. When our preschoolers graduate to kindergarten, they will likely have teachers using the same language about letters they remember from pre-k.
Learn & Play Curriculum
Kindermusik International® is the world’s leading provider of music and movement programs for young children, enjoyed by over 1.5 million families in more than 70 countries. The curriculum, based on the principles of Kodaly, Suzuki, and Orff, is taught by the best educators in the best schools and studios world-wide. And, in our Asheville Creative Arts Preschool.
Asheville Creative Arts Preschool is dedicated to meeting the needs of each child. This includes reaching out to other professionals and incorporating a variety of materials. Other curriculum resources include: Centering on Children, Inc., Edmark Reading, IAAFE, International Preschool Curriculum, Music Theatre International, Music Together, and, of course, the creative minds of our instructors and students.
